The Viscous Silence
Of It Being Decided
Though I wasn't invited to
The Ceremony,
I happened to find leftover fliers and
party decorations
When the passersby
See that I've spotted the remnants,
Their guilt freezes them in place
The traffic haults
Icicles form
Years pass
And in the desert,
Birds lose wing mobility in midair
Fall from the sky
Splatter into puddles
Too far away for me to see
But the blood droplets still find a way onto my face
And despite my absence, I can hear the sounds
Of mangy coyotes rummaging through the
Exploded bird piles, forever choking on
Splintered bones
