Peninsula Siblings was a kid’s TV show pitch I worked really hard on, but nothing really came to fruition because the companies that were interested in it couldn’t get their shit together. A few companies strung me along for a couple of years through endless “deal negotiations” and “development” situations where I was barely paid for endless rounds of busy work on this project that was actually ready to go to series, until canceling it for no reason. I decided to just put it in the archive and focus on my other projects.
Here’s a 22 minute pilot animatic I made independently with Andrea Reyes, Yasmeen Abedifard, Kelly Ficarra, Dylan Kanner, Ala Flora.
The idea behind making this was that it would make the show “easier to sell” because the world, tone, sensibility and characters would be fleshed out, but what I didn’t realize was that the animation industry doesn’t actually reward competency, they instead want to hire people to do nothing for years and years. It’s really about doing as little as possible for as long as possible. What I should have done, in hindsight, instead of trying to create shows, is instead fail my way upwards as an animation industry executive, where I could get paid well to do nothing, say no to every idea I hear, make sure nothing ever gets made and that my company is basically a useless blight on society! Next time I’m reincarnated that’s what I’m shooting for
